Artemis Gaitanos

Artemis was born and raised in Athens, Greece. She took her first steps in studying the violin at the age of five. She started her first musical studies at the Hellenic Conservatory in Athens, Greece and continued at the National Conservatory of Athens where she graduated
with a Degree on Violin and Contemporary Vocal Technique. In 2009 she received her Master’s Degree in Violin Performance.

Artemis has performed with various orchestras including the Athens State Orchestra, the Athens Symphonic Orchestra of ERT, the Orchestra of the Municipality of Petroupoli also known
as “Symphonopetra” and the Deree College Orchestra. She also created her own orchestra named ACapella, who got to perform internationally.

Apart from her studies and performances, she has also attended a numerous variety in piano,
violin, cello and music therapy seminars with well known conductor and composer Stavros
Lantsias, with Solo Pianist, Professor and Conductor Dimitris Toufexis, with Violin Professor
Nina Patrikidou, with world renown Cellist Heinrich Schiff, Music Therapy and Autism with Ms.
Cindy Trent and Music Therapy and Movement with Ms. Dapne Oikonomou.

She recently moved back to Oakland from Athens Greece and continues to teach young
children and adults. She teaches Music and Music Therapy for both General and Special Ed.
students in collaboration with both the Oakland Unified School District and the San Fransisco
School District. Artemis is also happy to assist in preparations for the
students that are interested with The Royal Conservatory Examination Testing.

 

Greatest Musical Influence?

I was mostly influenced by my teacher and world known soprano Maria Kokka

Any hidden talents besides music?

 One of my hidden talents is fencing.

What did you want to be while you were growing up?

When I was younger I wanted to become an astronaut.

If you could have any ‘Super Power’, which one would it be?

If I had any super power, I would end poverty once and for all!!

If you could master any other instrument which would it be?

If there was one more instrument I would want to master in, that would be the flute.

Have you had what people would consider your “15 Minutes of Fame”, and if so when/what was that?

I have lived my few minutes of fame on different Greek television talk and performance shows.

It’s your last meal: What would it be?

My last meal would definitely be a gyro, but I would also not say no to a burger and fries.

You are sent to a deserted island, and you only have one album to listen to: Which is it?

 If I were stranded on an island I would definitely need my CD ” The Best of The Doors”.

If you could leave one lesson with your students what would it be?

My lesson to my students is to always be proud of themselves and never give up on their education.
